Texture studies

With all this digital painting practice we're doing, thought I'd share this cube textures demo from deviant art user =tanathe

He/she has some time lapse process videos posted.

I think the range and execution among the cubes is just incredibly well done. They all share kind of a similar style that makes for a neat family.

Maybe we could do some posts of different texture cube ideas. :)

Whimsical Creature Thoughts

Thought I would sketch a few tertiary type details after your last comment.

New topic

So i've been bouncing an idea around in my head the past couple of days and thought it might make for some cool art interpretations.

I'd like to see some characters depicting the below:

In actuality a self defeating being among us, though the defeat is always blamed upon the external. Laced with potential, a darkened and spiraling force continues, repeatedly out of control - the type of control afforded to us by choice-  misguided by misconceptions as to why this is. Starved of sun light, caged by a new era's lifestyle, its negativity continues to cause itself to stumble. For happiness is a choice not a circumstance.

Its scattered but loose enough for whatever direction you want to take it.

Buffalo Dog Review : )

Hey so I really like this guy and I wanted to add to my earlier comments.

So I noticed you like to stick to kind of monochromatic desatured range and I think it particular looks cool on this guy and adds to his 'mellowness' for lack of better words..

Upon further investigating his right foot, i noticed it was the whole 'frontal plane' of the top front chest down to the feet looks a bit twisted towards the camera, while his spine and neck and body are very straight without and twist away or towards the camera. So I drew a red line on the ground perspective line his feet were on and modified his feet on a ground line that is more in perspective in regards to the nicely established rear legs you did. I kind of thing of it like the tangent that the big toes make between each other..

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

One Week Break

It would be nice to post personal technique descriptions up, or post work for previously dated topics.

The Gang Roomba

Took about 2.5 hours to model everything and animate with the junk rig I made with parenting geometry and nurbs circles.

Wednesday's Topic: Boomarangatang.

Boomarangatang.  You may take the letters in this fictitious word and reconfigure them to anything you like without loosing more than 7 characters, or you can take the word as is.

The Wandering Bros.

Sorry to be late...ended up having to go and build a metal building out of town.

Monday's Topic: The Wanderer

Exactly what it says on the tin.

Eeek!

Tough topic!  Had a hard time staying focused..I feel like there is too much latency when using a tablet in Photoshop..a lot of motion gets deranged in translation...cannot wait to paint on a cintiq.

Saturday's topic is jelly remote

Hairy soap gem leading the map maker.

loose 40 minutes. lots of Caleb's favorite muddy colors. no plan going into this. would like to clean up and take further but I must instead abandon my children, says Caleb, until they're pretty enough, and only then may I keep them.

Ad-Hoc the Maker.

so..I thought maybe I would draw a map and..its not easy to just make up a whole map..so this is as far as I got.

The Old Cartographer

Actually a bit early tonight. Been in an art mood and doodling things throughout the day today.

multisim half wave rectifier

this is an abstract piece inspired by both topics. it ended up being inevitable that they mix together. i was thinking of doing each of them but then different aspects of both ended up influencing this.

Wednesday Topic: The Mapmaker

The Mapmaker

When you see it..

Had something entirely different in mind but Maya 'sploded so then I had this idea pop in my head. Cheesy, but it's a pattern kinda.

The Wheel

Okay, okay so its just a concept of a tread pattern but it is still a pattern in technology.

I decided to make a insert multi-mesh brush for ZBrush.

technological patterns

find a pattern in technology (not limited to electronics, a hammer qualifies as technology) and either represent its pattern artistically or create a new one with it.

FEEL NRG lol

oh goodness... this was just going to be a quick concept before the actual drawing but i like it.

Placeholder

Bah.. I know it's only like 8 but I know mine's gonna be late tonight. I have been feeling a little fever-y and gross this weekend, I think I just need some rest and then I can just focus for a bit.

The Mainline!

Saturday Topic: Faux "Energy" Product

So one time I was in a sports authority and I saw this "energy spray" it was kinda like binaca..but it was called 1000 hour energy..and to me that was just plain ridiculous..so try to create some faux energy supplement or attempt to portray its effects.

Conquest

What do you get when you cross two of the most challenging things to draw? This, apparently. I definitely need to keep working on it, but this is it, two hours in.

Darkness.

Still trying to get better at 2D concepting...

As a bio: this is the horsemen of Darkness, The Horse's name is Eternal. He carries around a black hole singularity that's relationship seems similar to a bird companion..he can command it to devour things into darkness.

"The Forgotten Horseman"

wednesday's topic: the forgotten horseman

So, you know how the riders of the apocalypse are Pestilence, Famine, War, and Death and they all have respective colors. The forgotten horseman idea came up in drunken conversation last night and some pretty ridiculous theories ensued.

clock rest

one time i stayed up for 5 1/2 days when i was 15. i realized i was hallucinating when i looked at this clock on my mom's VCR and it resembled this. the topic reminded me of how terrifying that was. eventually i fell asleep but i didn't forget about it.

Treasure

Was a bit late in starting mine, but here it is! A curious baby critter has found a strange, shiny egg.

found a connection

this one is a relative of the molten dude that i did earlier in this blog. as far as technique it was pretty much the same. but this one is more about finding a connection with an animal, its a pretty cool treasure to find.

Goretrex

The Goretrex "Treasure Hunter 9000"

This is a robot built to find buried treasure.  Factory tested to have found over 9000 variants of hidden treasure in various terrains.

Saturday's Topic: Found Treasure

Interpret this however you wish. Could be any kind of treasure - riches, knowledge, or something else entirely! Can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Kung-FUBARED

this was originally going to be a comical reflection of how rudimentary AI in a lot of classic videos games was but my 2 hours ran out and i just kind of had to patch it together. just barely made it

Wednesday Topic: The Kill

This doesn't have to be as dark as it sounds, but it could be if that's what floats your boat. Many living things must kill to survive. Characterize that moment and let us see what you think!

Corundum Critter

That Wiki article mentioned metal oxides as potential alternatives to carbon as a basis for life. I went with aluminum oxide (A form of which is corundum, one of the hardest materials, which is what rubies and sapphires are) and made a critter that chips away minerals to eat with its beak (and possibly to fight with others of its kind). The crystals on its back act as both armor and as a counterbalance. It senses the world around it by detecting chemical signals through rows of orifices on its limbs.

The Infinity Leech

Enormous space parasites that devour whole planets and stars and must live off the radiant heat stored in the planets core as well as residual radiation found in space..its body is made of silica that it devours..all other matter is discharged into its antlerish wings. due to its size, the Infinity Leech is a slow moving creature.

no comprendo

Humans tend to look for things that they can recognize when they cannot comprehend what they are looking at. This is the way i chose to go for the non-carbon based life form. It's more based on the idea that we would see bits and pieces of things that we understand in something that we cannot understand. ALSO, pokemon.

late to the party!

tried to keep it simple!

Mondays Topic: NCBLF's

All forms of life that we know of are carbon based....Imagine if you will..a Non-Carbon Based Life-form.

Just a few variations on my logo idea.

Saturday's Topic: Group Logo

I thought this group could use a logo, and Caleb suggested I make it a 'topic' for my turn, which I am totally down with! Then maybe this weekend or next I could put together a custom template style based on the resulting chosen logo.

Super Happy Sausage - 122 - 2b

i don't feel like the packaged meat industry wants us to think about where sausage comes from but if we had to... this might be what they'd hope we would assume.

Sausage Beast

This creature eats the entire carcass of its kill on the spot, holding the meat in its first stomach, then goes back to its lair and deposits portions of it inside casings to preserve for later. Eventually, humans observing this behavior were inspired to invent sausage.
